DIPLOMA IN MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH

Africa Center for Project Management (ACPM) in partnership with SCIM Institute, Netherlands are pleased to announce a Diploma in Maternal and Child Health .The course is offered through Distance Learning. The course will start from 1st April 2016 to 31st September 2016

Diploma in Maternal and Child Health program designed to train individuals to become responsible and productive public health professionals with an emphasis on MCH populations.

This program investigates maternal and child health from a multi disciplinary perspective that integrates the life course , biological, demographic, epidemiological, developmental, environmental, behavioral and social characteristics that are unique to the health and well

being of women, children and families.

Course Objectives

The objectives of this educational program are to provide and improve:

Knowledge and skills to assess the health care needs of women, children, and families

Ability to plan, design, implement, evaluate and communicate programs and research targeted toward health promotion, disease prevention among women, children, and families

Our program strives to attain:

· Scientific Basis of MCH public health practice

· Methodological/Analytical Skills

· Management and Communication Skills

· Policy and Advocacy Skils

· Values and Ethics in MCH Public Health Practice

Upon Completion of Diploma in Maternal and Child Health Program students should possess the following functional competencies:

· Asses s the individual, community, organizational and societal needs of women, children, and families. Students should be able to assess existing health related data and data sources on the health and well being of women, children and families.

· Students should be able to collect health related data, distinguish between those factors that foster or hinder health and wellbeing, and infer needs of women, children and families from an assessment of health needs.

· Plan MCH related strategies, interventions and programs to improve the health of women, children and families.

· Student should have the ability to formulate appropriate and measurable program objectives, involve people and organizations in planning, develop a program plan with a logical scope and sequence, design strategies, interventions and programs that are consistent with the program objectives, select appropriate strategies to meet that may affect program implementation.

· Implement strategies, interventions and programs to meet the health needs of women, children and families.

· Students should have the knowledge on ho w to implement planned programs, to initiate a plan of action, select methods that best meet the program objectives and assess program implementation materials.

· Conduct evaluation and research related to the health and well being of women, children and families.

· Students should have the ability to develop plans for evaluation and research, design/evaluate existing data collection instruments, interpret results from evaluation and research and infer implications from evaluation and research into the health and wellbeing of women, children and families.

· Administer MCH strategies, interventions and programs.

· Student should have the knowledge to exercise professional leadership, conduct strategic planning, apply ethical standards to the administration of programs and practice of public health, and communicate and foster cooperation among the community and public to meet the needs of women, children and families.

· Communicate and advocate for health and well being of women, children and families.

· Students should have the capability to use health related information resources, select resource materials for dissemination, analyze and respond to current and future needs in MCH, apply a variety of communication methods and techniques, assess appropriateness of health education messages, techniques and dissemination, influence health policy to promote the health and well being of women, children and families.

· Knowledge and skills to incorporate a life course perspective to the health and well being of women, children and families.

This module is designed specifically for practitioners in health and development organizations.

Course Organizers:

Africa Center for Project Management (ACPM) was established in 2004 in Amsterdam with the Africa regional offices in Nairobi. The organization was formed to address capacity building needs among development and corporate organizations in Africa and Asia by offering Online Certificates and In-House trainings. The organization has over ten years experience working with development partners in capacity building in. We have trained over 5000 development Professionals in various thematic areas.

Exercises:
After they have read the material for each unit, students are expected
to test their own Learning by completing some relevant exercises and
tasks.
Assignments: There are ten assignments (continuous assessment tests) and one examination to be offered at the end of the course. Assignments and Continuous Assessment Tests account for 70% project paper or examination will account for 30% of the mark. Upon completion of the course you shall be issued with a Diploma Certificate and a course transcript.

Examination

Certificate and Transcripts will be sent after successful completion of the course

DURATION AND COURSE LOAD: 24 Weeks - 5 to 6 hours per week
